Moon Phase Meanings & Rhythm Reminders
The moon completes a cycle of phases every 29.5 days, close to but not the same as the 28-day emotional biorhythm. Biorhythm Compass shows the current phase with a reflective meaning rather than the astronomy, and its reminders can tell you when a phase or a rhythm window begins — all scheduled on your device.
The eight phases and what they are used for
Phases have been used as a reflection calendar for a very long time, and the framing is consistent: the waxing half is associated with building and the waning half with finishing and letting go.
New moon
A quiet starting point. Good for deciding what the next few weeks are for.
Waxing crescent to first quarter
Building. The stage where an intention needs its first real effort.
Waxing gibbous to full
Peak visibility. Things come to a head, for better and worse.
Waning gibbous to last quarter
Review and release. What is finished, and what should not be carried forward.
Balsamic (waning crescent)
Rest before the next cycle begins.
Moon phase and the emotional cycle
The lunar month is 29.5 days and the emotional biorhythm is 28. They drift against each other by about a day and a half each month, so the two line up and separate over a period of roughly eighteen months.
Reading them together is more interesting than reading either alone: a full moon landing on an emotional low is a very different week from a full moon landing on an emotional high.
Reminders that stay on your device
Alerts in Biorhythm Compass are scheduled locally. There is no server holding your dates, and nothing is sent anywhere when a reminder fires.
You choose which windows matter — a rising physical cycle, a transition day, a moon phase — and set quiet hours so nothing arrives overnight. Missed reminders are caught up the next time you open the app.

Questions people ask
- What does the moon phase mean for me today?
- Traditionally the waxing phases are associated with building and starting, and the waning phases with finishing and releasing. Biorhythm Compass shows a short reflective meaning for the current phase rather than the astronomy.
- How long is a full moon cycle?
- About 29.5 days from one new moon to the next, which is why phases shift slightly earlier in the calendar each month.
- Do biorhythm reminders need an account?
- No. Reminders are scheduled on your device, respect quiet hours you set, and nothing about your dates leaves the app.
- Is the moon phase related to the emotional biorhythm?
- They are close in length — 29.5 days against 28 — but they are separate cycles that drift against each other and are best read side by side.
