A worked example

For a birth date of 14 March 1990: 1+4 = 5, 3 for March, and 1+9+9+0 = 19 → 1+9 = 10 → 1. Adding 5 + 3 + 1 gives 9, so the Life Path is 9.

The name is reduced the same way. If the resulting Destiny is 4, the pairing of a 9 Life Path with a 4 Destiny describes someone drawn to broad, meaningful work but most effective when it has structure — and the Maturity number, 9 + 4 = 13 → 4, suggests structure is where they eventually settle.

Which name to use
